SLEEPING BEAUTY PROJECT: OVERNIGHT BEAUTY HACKS

overnight beauty hacks, beauty secrets, sleeping, night mask, night serum, night cream, wake up prettier, wake up beautiful

We spend (or should spend) from 7 to 8 hours sleeping. That’s a lot of time! So, why don’t we use this time productively for our beauty?

Here are some overnight beauty hacks you have to try to wake up more beautiful the next morning!

1. Prepare your skin

Remove all your makeup

N°1 rule: remove all your makeup and clean your face.

Use a mild cleanser or the Cleansing oil method to take off all makeup, dirt, and pollution. Your clean skin will better absorb the treatments you will apply and you will prevent clogged pores and pimples.

Change your pillow case often

Especially if you sleep with your face down or on your side, flip your pillow every night so that you will sleep on the clean side, and change your pillowcase every 2/3 days.

Steam your face

Wet a small towel with warm/hot water, squeeze the excess water and lay it on your face till it gets cold again. You can repeat this step 3 times. The steam will help your pores to open up so that the dirt can come out and, at the same time, it will help the products to be absorbed better into the skin.

After steaming you can apply a face mask that you will rinse with cold water or a toner from the fridge. The cold will close up the pores again.

Now your skin is ready for bed or for your night beauty treatments!

2. Apply a night serum, a rich cream or a sleeping mask

At night you can use any treatment you can’t use during the day due of their oiliness or because they can’t be exposed to the sun, like retinol, bleaching creams or rich creams.

Try this combo: first, apply this retinol serum to help erase fine lines or the licorice serum if you have hyperpigmentations, acne scars or melasma, and then apply this concentrated cream or this hydrating sleeping mask to help the skin to renew itself.

And don’t forget to use a serum also around your eye area and to apply a nourishing lip balm on your lips and the area around it! Yeah, like a little girl or Miranda Singhs 😉

3. Give your hands and feet a beauty spa

In winter, my hands get very dry, scaly and itchy sometimes.  If you’re like me, you can give your hands an extra pamper while you’re sleeping!

Apply a rich butter or simply a good body cream like this one from Aveeno all over your hands and don’t forget also your cuticles and nails. Then wear a pair of cotton gloves or these gloves that have a special gel coating for a deeper moisturizing effect. You’ll wake up with beautiful fairy hands!

You can do the same to get soft feet. Every night put some cream or butter with a good massage and then wear your regular socks. If you’ll do this, you won’t need to use a pumice stone ever again!

4. Overnight hair treatment

Give your hair a deep conditioning by applying a hair mask and keeping it overnight. This is a great tip especially if you don’t have time during the day and when you have very dry and damaged hair.

You can soak your hair in coconut oil, olive oil or a mask like the TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask and the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Intensive Strengthening Masque to get beautiful frizz-free hair. Don’t forget to protect your pillow with a towel and to wrap your hair with a plastic foil and a hair cap!

5. Eyelash and eyebrow serum

Use an eyelash and eyebrow serum to strengthen them and to help them grow longer and fuller. I almost envy my friends that have beautiful, curly and thick eyelashes! I know my eyelashes will never look like theirs even by using these serums, but longer and stronger lashes are still great with the help of an eyelash curler 😉

Castor oil is a great natural option but it will take some time to see its effects, or you can try COSNATURALS Peptide Lash for quicker results. In both cases, consistency is key to see good results.

6. Use a humidifier to give your skin extra hydration

Give your skin some extra hydration by using a humidifier at night. By adding a relaxing essential oil like lavender you will have a luxurious and more relaxing night sleep.

7. Sleep on a pillow

Some time ago I stopped sleeping on a pillow  because it was giving me neck pain, yet I observed that I would wake up with a swollen face in the morning, especially my eyelids were very puffy. I realized that it was because the blood was not able to flow back to the heart because my head was lower than my body so it got accumulated in my face.

I fixed this by using a thinner pillow and elevating my head helped my blood to flow and circulate better.

So, always keep your head higher than your body by sleeping on a pillow.

8. Sleep on your back

Again, I used to sleep without a pillow because I was sleeping on my stomach. Very bad!

I always thought that my “Number 11” lines on my forehead were caused by my habit of frowning. Maybe it’s also because of that, but now I’m sure that my sleeping habit was the major culprit!

I’ve been sleeping for 25 years with my face squashed on my mattress, sure I was getting lines and wrinkles! When I started to sleep on my back, I observed that my forehead lines got smoother and that my face expression was much more relaxed (instead of looking angry!) in the morning.

If you want to prevent wrinkles, sleep on your back!

9. style your hair while sleeping and use a silk pillow

Cut your styling time in the morning by styling your hair while sleeping!

I love sleeping in a bun because it gives me beautiful curls in the morning without damaging my hair.

The trick is to learn the method that works best for you as not every technique will work with any hair type and length. It might take you a few tries, but it’s worth trying and you’ll get better at doing it.

Invest also in a silk pillowcase to minimize hair friction and frizziness, and also because it will help your hair to stay in place the whole night.

Beside the classic top-knot and socks/donut technique, these are my favorite techniques. Try them and see wich one works best for you!

10. Tea tree oil is your best friend

Everyone should have a small bottle of Tea tree oil at home. It works for almost any skin problem, especially when you have a zit. Just dab a drop of tea tree oil on it and it will be gone the next day!

11. Dry shampoo

If you know you won’t have time to wash your hair the next morning, spray some dry shampoo or dust some baby powder on your scalp before going to bed. The next morning you’ll just have to brush your hair without the worry of the baby powder showing.

12. Sleep early and have enough sleep

The last but most important tip to wake up beautiful is to have enough sleep! You may think that your 5 or 6 hours of sleep are enough, but think how it will affect your skin and your overall health in the long run.

Conclusion

You can use your sleeping time to give yourself an extra pamper or to save some time in the morning!

I hope you enjoyed these overnight beauty hacks! Try them and tell me if you liked them 🙂

Hi Lea, I’ve heard about many of these hacks. And I do apply many of them to my pre-sleeping routine. But I’ve never steamed my face. Am I supposed to do that every night? Angel

Hi Angel! Steaming your face is a great way to give your skin a deep cleansing. Maybe you’ve also seen around some facial steamers that are used for facials, but you can also steam your face the old way with a pot filled with hot water and a towel on your head. Steaming is used to “open” the pores and help the skin to sweat and pull out dirt (as when you work out), and it’s an important step especially during facials as it helps the skin to absorb other products or help purifying masks to “suck” better the impurities. This kind of steaming should be done only a few times a month. Here I talk about using a towel and hot water (not boiling) to give yourself a “small” facial before bed without hussling with pots and other things. This still opens your pores but it is much milder so you can really do it every day. It’s also a great way to relax yourself after a stressful day as it will relax your facial muscles. However, if you have blotches or fagile capillaries, or very dry skin, I advice you to stay away from vapor or any hot threatment 🙂

Thank you so much for your replay, Lea. It is very helpful. You convinced me to add this to my routine. I don’t have a problem with blotches or similar things so I will steam my face the old fashioned way every night and I’m excited for the results. Angel

Hi Angel, I’m glad you found it helpful. I don’t advice you to do it every night. If you want to use the old fashioned way just do it once a week, or maximum twice, not more 🙂
