Mornings, oh, mornings! You either love them or hate them.

Have you ever noticed how much the way you start your day can impact the rest of it? How many times did you start your day the wrong way, maybe because you woke up late or you argued with someone, and you felt that the whole day went terribly? It’s because the first hours of the day have a huge impact on our mood and on how we perceive our day unfolding.

So, why you don’t you make the first hours of your day pleasant and fun? You will be able to face the day more motivated and with a blissful and positive mind!

Either you’re an early bird or a night owl that loves waking up late, here are some things you can adopt to set yourself for a happier day you will enjoy!

Set a gentle alarm ringtone

I don’t know about you but I hate to be woken up suddenly. It’s both annoying and unhealthy for your mental health. Instead of using annoying beeping or ringing alarm ringtones, use pleasant ones like the tweeting of birds or a soft playing guitar, or rather set your favorite music or buy a radio alarm clock tuned to your favorite radio station.

Eat something yummy!

What do you like to eat? What is your dream breakfast?  Savory or sweet, plan a breakfast you love! You won’t believe how fast and easy you will get up in the morning. Just remember to wake up a bit early if you have to cook or prepare it the night before.

Play a happy song or music

Music has a big influence on our mood. Play joyful songs while getting ready or having your breakfast, and avoid as much as possible music that can make you feel sad or down.

Don’t argue

Avoid arguing first thing in the morning as this is the best thing you can do to ruin your day.

Whenever you can, delay an argument for later on. This will not only save your day from going to the wrong direction, but delaying it will help both parties to think better and calm down. The great thing is that you will eventually forget petty useless arguments! Win win!

Say I love you to someone

Do it!

Tell someone that you love them. It can be your spouse or your significant other, your children or your parents, or just a friend. It will make both your and their day!

Declutter the night before and night prep

Every night, build the habit of taking 10 or 5 minutes to declutter, even when you’re tired. You don’t need to clean everything, just create more order and peace for when you’ll wake up. The next morning, you’ll be thankful you did it.

Express love through physical touch

Besides telling someone you love them, you can also express your love with actions. Some people have physical touch as their first love language. Even if it’s not yours or theirs, it releases good hormones that will make you feel better and make your bond fonder. So, give a kiss or hug to someone you love, or even just petting your pet will work too 🙂

Watch something funny and laugh!

If you have time, watch a funny video and try to have a good laugh. It will immediately give your mood a good kick. As Salomon said in his proverbs, a cheerful heart is good medicine!

Look at someone you love (or you like)

Have you ever noticed that when you think about your crush or significant other you unavoidably smile? Even when you just look at their picture? Looking at someone you love releases endorphin in your body, the hormone of happiness! So, take advantage of this and give yourself permission to stalk a little bit their Facebook or Instagram profile! Happy eyes, happy you! 😀

Go for a run or walk

Jogging, or even just walking or doing any physical exercise releases oxytocin, another hormone that will improve your mood. Anytime you can, try to have a morning walk in a park and under the sun. Nature is your mood best friend.

Think happy thoughts

One thing to not underestimate is to think happy thoughts. It’s too easy to be pessimistic and think negatively in this broken world.

Reset your mind, decide to avoid having any negative thought in the first hours of the morning and at night before bed. Be aware that thinking often negatively can become a habit and consequently lead you to depression and heart diseases. So, start to change the way you think right now 🙂

Pray and read the Bible

If you believe in God, this is something you should definitely add to your morning routine. Save some time to read the Bible (I love to read the books of Proverbs and Psalms), and to pray. Give to God all your worries and hopes, and ask Him to lead you that day and to bless your plans. If you don’t believe, just pass it, or give it a try. There’s nothing to lose 🙂

Morning prepares you and your day, so strategize it for success and happiness. Show love to yourself and to the people around you and your day will be headed for positivity!

What does your dream morning routine look like? I’d love to hear from you! 🙂

That last one? It’s my first one 😀 This is a wonderful list!

That’s awesome! For me too, I read the Bible while I’m eating breakfast and I love it. I listed it last because people often get defensive when reading “religious” stuff at first glance, while they are more open and receptive when they get something else first 😉
      I’m glad you like it!

Mornings are so hard for me, I have a 10 month old and it’s made mornings even more challenging. I’m trying to figure out what is a good morning routine for us to make the day go smoother for both of us, great tips!

Thank you! I can’t imagine how challenging it can be! Maybe try to prepare as much as you can the night before, like both your clothes, your bag, your breakfast etc. and create a special place you can leave him or her in the morning while your doing other things. I’m immagining a caged playground with a carpet and his or her favorite toys. You can try also to play a specific song you will always play in the morning when your baby is in the playground so that will be his or her morning routine.

I wrote about mornings this week, and I didn’t even think to suggest a gentle alarm tone. I even use one and I didn’t think to tell other other people to! Glad you mentioned it here! It really does help a lot not to be jarred awake by some foghorn or beeping noise.
