Are you always in a rush in the morning? How can you get ready faster and save time so you can start the day the right way?
In the morning many of us are in hurry, either because we love sleeping and nothing can wake us up (for sure not our alarm, but neither our mum screaming at us!), or time just seems to run too fast for our sleepy self in the morning.
This sense of rush and the worry of being late is often translated in a sense of tension that influences the rest of the day, with the chance of it even becoming a habitual state we link with the morning. We start to hate mornings and feel frustrated every time.
How to break free? Common sense would tell you to “go to bed earlier so you will wake up earlier”. But, even that is not enough sometimes. Have you ever experienced that even if you wake up earlier than usual you’re still late? Or you still end up rushing at the last minute? I still do sometimes (my people know)!
But what if we could have more time by doing fewer things in the morning?
Here’s how you can do that.
1. Be healthy.
Being healthy makes you more active, even in the morning when you just woke up. It is easier to enter the day in a positive and proactive way if your body and mind are healthy and ready to take action.
So exercise, eat well and sleep well. If you have a good sleep at night you’ll have the strength and clarity to face your day.
2. Invest in your skin.
Doing a full face makeup can take a loooot of time. Skin primer, concealer, foundation, contouring, highlighter, five different eyeshadows, eyeliner, eyelash primer, fake lashes, eyelash curler, mascara, makeup fixer… anything else missing? If you watch a makeup tutorial on youtube you can see how many products they apply and how much time it takes to finish the look. I used to do it too when I was in high school, I would wake up 2 hours earlier and still end up missing my bus!
Do you really need all of that?
Save complicate looks for special occasions and simplify your daily makeup routine. Use only a few makeup products and invest in having a healthy skin.
When you have a healthy skin you can just either apply some mascara or lipstick, do your brows, and you’re ready to go!
You’ll save a lot of time!
3. Start to get yourself ready the night before
Shower and wash your hair at night and style them while you sleep. You can braid them, or make a top knot or roll your hair.
The internet is full of tutorials, experiment and find what work best for your hair 😉
4. Declutter and organize vital spaces.
Declutter and organize every space and room you use the most, like your bathroom and bedroom.
Remember: less is more. A clutter free and organized space will simplify your life.
Stop wasting time looking for things you can’t find in the mess!
5. Create a capsule wardrobe.
Even here, declutter and organize.
Again, this will save you time and simplify your life.
If you need different outfits for different occasions (for example you have a dresscode for the office), create different capsule wardrobes or divide your wardrobe for each clothing category.
- You can have one space for an everyday/free-time look, one for the office, and another one for special occasions.
- Have also fewer accessories that can go with most of your outfits. In doing this, it will be easier and faster for you to pretty up.
- For your accessories, have only key pieces that you love. Like a few hats, a few pieces of necklaces and earrings that you can wear most of the time. A reference number can be to have a maximum of three pieces for each item. You’ll end up using the same ones you like the most anyway!

6. Use a timer and alarm
Set a time limit for anything you do (like for breakfast and grooming) and set an alarm for when you have to leave home.

7. Wear comfortable shoes.
I’m sure you’ve already seen this tip. It really makes life easier!
So, if you’re still avoiding this, it’s time to start doing it!
Prepare as much as you can the night before.
- choose your outfit
- prepare what you need to make your breakfast
- ready your bag and all you need for work or school
- prepare your workout clothes if you have to work out the next day
Extra hack: dedicate a place (like a small table or chair) where you’ll place all the things you’ll need for the next day. You won’t have to stress out looking for what you need as it will be just ready on hand.
In a few words, this is the formula to get ready faster:
Be healthy + have few things that you really love + have clutter-free and organized spaces + wear comfortable shoes + manage time better + night prep !
